OAKLAND TO CONSIDER SMOKING BAN BILL
The Oakland City Council will decide at a Tuesday meeting whether
to hold a second vote on a smoking ban or amend the ordinance and
hold the first vote all over again.
Council members will consider adjusting and adding where people
are allowed to smoke in Oakland, taking into consideration
recommendations from the fire department, the American Lung
Association and members of the public.
Although the council already voted on the ordinance Sept. 19,
two votes must be held for the ordinance to go through.
Tuesday's vote was supposed to be the second and final vote, but
there are details of the ordinance that will be discussed further
and then voted on again. The final vote is scheduled for Oct.
30.
The two main points being argued are whether to allow smoking on
golf courses and how far from bars smoking will be allowed.
