Unknown facts about famous cigarette brands
For today Marlboro is one of the most popular cigarette brands. But few know that at the beginning Marlboro cigarettes were made for women and were based on the slogan "Mild as May". Even filters for these cigarettes were of bright pink color to hide the prints of lipstick. But by the beginning of World War Two Marlboros were removed from production because profit from them was low. In 1955 was taken a try to reanimate Marlboro. To give new cigarettes "male" accent was necessary a "real man" character. To create this character was chosen a cowboy and till now this character is associated with Marlboro cigarettes.
Camel cigarettes were put on the market in 1913 by company founded by R.J. Reynolds. In 20-30s "Camel" was "number one cigarettes brand" in the USA. In the early 60s R.J. Reynolds company changed design of Camel. Was changed print on the box, were deleted 2 of 3 pyramids and was taken general modernization of appearance. But after changes were made sales of cigarettes abruptly went down and company started to accumulate losses. After such an experiment previous appearance was reestablished. Since that time pack of Camel remains invariable. Name of camel, depicted on the Camels pack is Old Joe.
R.J. Reynolds Company is also famous for first using American mixing in Winston cigarettes. But by surprising coincidence in the same year Philip Morris Company started using tobacco medley similar to Winston one. It is still unknown fact whether it was just a coincidence or successful industrial spying.
In "American medley" main feature is presence of thermally worked up tobacco "Burley". Burley is relatively young tobacco with excellent aroma. It grows in Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio states. It is remarkable for low content of sugar, high content of nicotine and it smoulders slowly. Burley also has rich nut taste. Today Winston cigarettes are bestsellers in many countries.
